Overview of the Challenge
NextEra Energy, Inc. (NYSE: NEE) is a leading clean energy company headquartered in Juno Beach, Florida. NextEra Energy owns Florida Power & Light Company (FPL), which serves more than five million customer accounts in Florida, and is the largest rate-regulated electric utility in the United States, as measured by retail electricity produced and sold.
NextEra Energy wanted to understand the why their costs at FPL were spiraling and needed a comprehensive telecommunications inventory of service type by service address by cost in order to make control decisions.
Objectives
Legacy Solutions was brought into FPL to provide a Forensic Telecom Audit of the telecommunications invoices received by the entire enterprise, including all locations across the United States.
Applying Legacy Solutions’ Process and Knowledge
The deliverable was received by the management team with complete satisfaction. To further delight the client, as a bonus, Legacy Solutions was able to provide the management team with savings identified in the course of the work.
As part of the Forensic Telecom Audit, we compared the location list provided by the client with the service address of each location identified on the service provider’s invoice.
Through this process, we identified sites on the service provider’s invoice that no longer existed.
We also discovered services that were only partially disconnected because the disconnect order was incomplete. Additionally, we collected contractual agreements for each communication service provider, and obtained state and federal tariffs filed by all phone service providers for each local, long distance, and network circuit service connecting to the local exchange carrier (LEC) in its geographic area.
We were then able to compare the costs presented to the client on their invoice with what was supposed to be charged, as determined by the tariff filings and subsequent contractual terms negotiated.
Outcome
Our final product was a comprehensive review of the cost by service type and service address by service provider, including all account numbers, sub-account numbers, and circuit numbers.
While this deliverable met our committed statement of work, the client was so pleased with the outcome they were able to take the final product to their newly chosen TEM provider for uploading to the new expense management software.
The deliverable was received by the management team with complete satisfaction. To further delight the client, as a bonus, Legacy Solutions was able to provide the management team with savings identified in the course of the work.
